Hal-hal yang harus dihiraukan dalam parkour, ternyata tidak dihiraukan -dan hal-hal yang secara luas dianggap mengesankan tidak lagi dianggap, setelah Anda menggaruk permukaannya. Sistem nilai kita telah dirusak.

Terkadang saya mencoba melihat parkour dari sudut pandang netral, seolah-olah saya belum pernah mendengar parkour sebelumnya.

Apa yang akan saya pikir jika saya menemukan Parkour sekarang sebagai anak berumur 17 tahun, pada tahun 2012? Saya membayangkan diri saya akan berpikir bahwa parkour tampak seperti menyenangkan dan saya mungkin akan menemukan diri saya ditarik ke bagian dari parkour namun saya akan melihat sesuatu yang sangat berbeda dari yang saya lihat 9 tahun yang lalu dan saya tahu hal itu tidak akan semenarik bagi saya dibandingkan dulu.

Catatan perjalanan Parkour Indonesia di tahun yang kelima oleh Muhamad Fadli

Tidak terasa sudah 5 tahun semenjak 17 Juli 2007 Parkour Indonesia berdiri. Banyak cerita suka dan duka di dalamnya. Banyak proses jatuh bangun sampai akhirnya wadah untuk pecinta seni-displin asal Perancis ini bisa menjadi bentuk seperti sekarang ini. Komunitas yang awalnya hanya dimulai dari sebuah forum independent di dunia maya namun berlanjut menjadi satu bentuk komunitas yang terus menerus mulai merambah lintas kawasan, gender, usia, serta berbagai karakter manusia yang ada di Indonesia.

Saat beberapa orang menilai kita hanya sekelompok orang begajulan, suka loncat-loncat kayak kutu loncat, dan segala jenis sebutan bagi mereka yang belum pernah mengenal istilah Parkour. Tapi kita tidak merasa kecil hati karena kita sangat memaklumi pendapat orang yang belum mengenal apa itu parkour.

Untuk itulah di 5 tahun yang lalu sebuah forum yang dikhususkan untuk para penggiat Parkour Indonesia dibentuk. Salah satu tujuannya adalah memperkenalkan apa itu parkour ke masyarakat serta meminimisasi tanggapan-tangggapan miring seperti yang saya sebutkan diatas. Parkour Indonesia mencoba untuk menyebarkan nilai-nilai dan sisi positif dari parkour yang telah banyak mengubah hidup para praktisinya menjadi pribadi yang lebih baik dari sebelumnya. Parkour Is Not A Sport

“Jumping and running across rooftops in the high-flying sport of parkour…”

“The sport of parkour, in which teenagers run and somersault across roofs…”

“The group of fit, athletic students are practitioners of the extreme sport of parkour…”

News stories with phrases like this crop up all the time. Reporters and journalists call parkour a sport because they just don’t know how else to classify it.

Parkour is not a sport.

“But Alan,” you may say, “It doesn’t matter if parkour is called a sport! That’s just nitpicking points of semantics!”

It does matter. Ideas have power. Words give form to ideas. The way an idea is framed and presented is a critical part of how it’s received by those who hear it. The way we reference parkour is no different. Terminology matters.

Take skateboarding and martial arts. Consider how differently the practitioners of each are regarded. Skateboarders are often seen as irresponsible, reckless rebels who need to grow up. Martial artists are respected, and not just because they can beat the tar out of anyone who doesn’t respect them. They are respected and admired because what they practice goes beyond a hobby, beyond a sport.

Parkour has a lot in common with both skateboarding and martial arts. Parkour is creative movement, like skateboarding; fast, efficient movements, like martial arts; (seemingly) crazy stunts like skateboarding; constant training like martial arts. To the inexperienced eye, it seems that parkour could be a sport, as it has so much in common with skateboarding. I disagree. The differences between the two outweigh the similarities. An Interview with Yamakasi Team in Jump Magazine

Q: Please introduce yourselves individually.

Laurent: My name is Laurent Piemontesi, I am 30 years old for few years again and I live in Milano, Italy. Here I teach Art du Déplacement in a school called Forma Arte, where there are others different disciplines. I’m trying to do the same as I did in France working around sport, education, art and culture.

Guylain: I am Guylain Boyeke, I’m 35 years old and from France.

Châu: I’m Châu Belle, one of the founders of the Yamakasi. I’m 34 years old, living in Paris and I’m an actor.

Williams: My name is Williams Belle, I’m 30 years old, I am half French and half Vietnamese. I’m living in Sarcelles, where I spent all my childhood and where I train Art du Deplacement. When I was a child, I had a communication problem: I had a stammer, so I expressed myself thanks to the movement. Today I am an actor and professional photographer. But after a broken ankle during training, I put my artistic career aside until my recovery. I am currently working on a comic book in which I share my ADD/Parkour experiences, called “SUPERNEM”.

Q: Obviously Parkour has become a massive international movement now, but please explain how it all started for you guys right back at the beginning?

Laurent: Everything ???started off like a childrens ???game. We were training ???together, between friends. ???A cool time. Everything??? was still there to be ???discovered.

Châu: At the beginning, it??? was like a childrens game??? for us. Young people who ???want to become stronger, but in a particular way by working very hard with good mental preparation.

Williams: I was looking for physical and mental freedom. I found it in ADD. I was a prisoner of my fears and life apprehensions. I found the answers in the movement and inner searching, which allowed me to be calm and confident in front of the obstacles I encountered in life. How to Achieve Your First Muscle Up

After saying to myself that I was going to do it for over a year now, I finally took the time and practiced until I was able to do my first muscle up. I had forgotten what it’s like to do an exercise you never were able to do before – and I will tell you it feels great.

What makes the muscle up so fun to learn is that most people can’t do it. It’s the same idea behind getting really good at the butterfly stroke for those of you who swim. It’s not really necessary for a good workout…but you look sweet doing it. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little showing off here and there.

What is a Muscle Up?

A muscle up is when you do a normal pull up, and then continue to go up pushing your arms down into a dip like movement. At the end, you’re straight on top of the bar when your arms back down. Here’s a video demonstrating how to do it:

Working Your Way Up to Your First Muscle-Up…

You’re probably not going to be able to watch a video and then go out and do a perfect muscle up. If you are able to – well, that’s impressive. But for the rest of us – you need to work your way up. Both strength and technique are involved, and you need both to get the exercise.

Building Strength:

Building strength for this is pretty straightforward. You’ll want to focus on pull-ups, dips, and some lower leg lifts for your abs (not necessary but helpful). Once you can do all of those exercises for more than 10 repetitions each, you’re strong enough and just need to work on technique.

Technique:

This is how I learned how to do it.

Part 1:

This may have been ugly and it may have hurt a bit – but you’ve done your first muscle-up! It only gets easier after this.

Part 2:

Start with a normal pull up, kick your legs for momentum, try to get a little swing going. While in the swing, kick up and get to the top of the bar, bend one elbow up quickly and push yourself over the bar. Now bring your other arm up, and do the dip. You’re starting to look good now, and it’s time to reach the final stage.

Part 3:

Swing back and forth on the bar, kick your legs for momentum mid swing, reach the end of the bar and bend both elbows up, push yourself over the bar and down and complete your first, beautifully done muscle-up. Good work!

What is Parcouring? Is it a typo for Parkour? No, it isn’t :)

According to what I’ve read on Youtube and their official website, they’ve got a quite interesting definition about this new sport:

Parcouring is a sport. We emphasize the term “sport” because Parcouring, dissimilar to Parkour, is not linked to ethical-philosophic conventions and charakter trails. It simply refers to overcome various obstacles during a competition.”To overcome obstacles”, also known as “Parcouring”, provides many oppotunities to use the existing environment as a part of sports equipment. Why do I choose Feiyue shoes for my parkour training?

FEATURES

Grip: These shoes are the best shoes for grip I’ve ever worn. They’ll grip to almost any surface with ease and you’ll very rarely slip. This is also a problem as sometimes you need some slip on things like arm jumps to avoid hurting your ankles.

Shock absorption: NONE, these shoes are as basic as they come. You’ll be relying almost completely on your muscles and landing technique for absorption, however I think this is a good thing.

Weight: Straight away if when you lift your Feiyues they’re heavy in comparison to their size and even other trainers. This is due to them having a thick rubber sole. I don’t mind them being this weight but others might.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PRODUCT?
I chose the Feiyues after seeing them in action first hand. I was standing on a slippery wall on a subway watching a friend of mine (Street Team member Luke) do a precision to the other wall. I felt uncomfortable just standing on the wall in my Asics and yet Luke was quite happy jumping and walking up and down the very slippery surface.

ROADTEST
COMFORT
The Feiyues have a slightly wider fit them normal trainers and sports shoes, so I found them a bit loose around my ankles but this was sorted with a sorbathane insole. If you have a narrow foot the Feiyue may not be for you. In terms of walking they are comfy but you can tell you’re in a thin shoe. Some people may find that uncomfortable.

DURABILITY
I had my Feiyues for 3 weeks by the time the sole around the ball of my foot and toes was worn flat, but as these shoes aren’t designed for what we do it’s to be expected. However, I’ve had mine since early December and they still have a lot of life in them, and I can do any kind of training in them I wish.

STYLE
Coming in white or black, both with natural rubber clobbered sole (orange brown), I don’t mind the look of them one bit. Although the plimpsole style may remind people of their primary school days doing P.E. in their pants and vests. Definitely not the most fashionable shoe.

CONCLUSION
I would say these trainers were VERY good for people with good landing technique and understanding of their body / control, as they are very unforgiving if you mess up a landing. Even if you can’t do your usual training in them they’re great for climbing.
